The Hong Kong Port Development Council advises the Chief Executive, through the Secretary for Transport and Housing, on all aspects of port planning and development and will specifically :-
- assess Hong Kong's port development needs taking account of changing demand for port facilities, productivity and performance; and promote the competitiveness of Hong Kong relative to major regional ports;
- coordinate the involvement of government and private sector agencies in the planning and development of the port services;
- provide a forum for consulting parties involving in, or affected by, Hong Kong's port;
- conduct publicity campaigns to publicise and promote the Hong Kong port;
- devise and recommend optimum planning and disposal strategies for port facilities;
- form specialist sub-groups as it deems necessary; and
- undertake any other tasks relevant to the above as may be referred to it by the Government.
